Microsoft replaces Hotmail with Outlook.com

The US IT giant ends one of the oldest messaging services. In replacement, Microsoft offers Outlook.com, a mailbox optimized for mobile and tablets, very social networks.

Microsoft kills Hotmail. The group announced Tuesday, July 31, that it would replace its famous messaging with a new service, Outlook.com.

What to draw a little tear of nostalgia to all the veterans of the Web. For many Internet users, Hotmail was the first email address, which accumulates spam and newsletters sites that have not been accessed for ten years.

The service was created in 1996. At the time, it was used to store two megabytes of mail. Today, that would not even be enough to store a piece of music or even most digital photos.

Over the years, Hotmail has conquered 320 million users. But Microsoft makes the following observation: for years, apart from the capacity of storage precisely, little has changed in the field of mailboxes.

An in-depth interface to use the service via smartphones

With hotmail.com, the group gives a good shot of scalpel to its messaging service. The interface is simplified, optimized for tablets and smartphones. Above all, it gives the possibility to integrate, within its mailbox, social networks. Outlook.com allows you to have direct access to updates of Facebook profiles of your friends, or to their latest tweets.

The name change also denotes a desire to rejuvenate the group: perhaps the brand Hotmail had become too dusty.
