New Hotmail vs. Gmail

It may sound amazing, but the new Hotmail is not bad. But does he hold up against Gmail? We compared Gmail and Hotmail on several points including organization, spam filter and attachments.

MORE HOTMAIL:

Inbox

The new Hotmail really tries to reduce the mess that reigns in the inbox. You can now add your contacts to the Hotmail list quickly and receive updates from different social networks ( Twitter, Facebok, LinkedIn, etc.) The new Quick View allows you to quickly see the contents of a mail which is advantageous to see what attachments look like without opening the email. The setting up of conversations (the grouping of several emails together automatically as on Gmail) is good, but late. The real interest of the new Hotmail in the inbox is Sweep, a tool that allows you to move or delete messages from certain automatically selected senders. It's technically possible on Gmail, but Hotmail log in does it more easily and faster.

Hotmail attachments has a very elegant way of dealing with attachments. Integration with Skydrive, the Microsoft storage site, allows up to 10GB per message. This is a nice publicity stunt but in reality, attachments can not exceed 50MB and we can not put more than 200 by email. Note: SkyDrive has a limit of 25GB. All attachments go directly to SkyDrive to be sent as links to the recipient, but the files appear as usual. Hotmail detects file types, such as photographs, and adapts. In the case of photographs, a gallery and a slide show are created. But we still have the possibility to add attachments to the old.

Integrated Content

Active View is one of the new additions to Hotmail. This option allows you to integrate content directly into the mails, such as Youtube videos that can be read from the message.

Microsoft Office

Integration The new Office Suite integration allows you to make corrections, edit documents in groups, and transfer files quickly and easily with SkyDrive.

THE ADVANTAGES OF GMAIL Gmail's

speed

makes it fast to send emails, much like a surgical hit. Hotmail takes time with a page dedicated to the success of sending your valuable message, the proposal to add the contact (s) in the contact list. This tendency to inform and assist on absolutely everything is one of the shortcomings of Hotmail for busy people.

Google search stays ahead of the search. Google search is accurate, versatile and fast. This is one of the features Hotmail is going to struggle to overcome.

Instant Messaging

Hotmail keeps MSN Messenger which is not always functional especially if you have to download , install, open and then use it. Gmail remains in the lead with its integrated messaging.

Smartphone side

Hotmail launches a better app for the mobile web (finally mainly for the iPhone). Gmail offers a very good feature on mobile phone and fits wonderfully well in the Android OS (surprise ?!).

EQUALITY: SPAM FILTER

The new Hotmail spam filter, named SmartScreen, has new filters that have been around for a long time on Gmail. One of the anti-spam methods used is to record spam messages as well as the addresses of those who send them to a list, allowing the current spam to be automatically removed from the inbox. SmartScreen scans the contents of messages to determine if they are spam or not. Nothing revolutionary but this new filter is welcome.

One of the advantages and disadvantages of Hotmail is that it monitors behavior to advocate actions. For example if Hotmail sees that you always delete some mails from the same sender without reading them, Hotmail will propose to unsubscribe from the mailing list. It sounds good but as Hotmail loves to offer all kinds of things, the suggestions are too present, to the point of being annoying. But one of the new features that Microsoft offers in Hotmail is the mailbox between normal mails and the spam box. Gmail's spam filter is unobtrusive, simply recording the emails you designate as spam.
